The Two Sides of Lautje

Although this blog tends mainly to show Lautje in his cute, funny moments, it is important to realize that Lautje has numerous other facets of his rapidly emerging personality. The photos below illustrate how quickly the sweet innocent boy can switch into a starkly different mode. Up top, while sitting at the table, you can see Lautje at his best: cute and easily amused.
However, like most children, the cute moments can disappear in an instant when he doesn't get what he wants. In Lautje's case, he is (as is befitting a child of two people such as the Mommy and the Daddy) exceedingly stubborn. Which is to say, when he wants something, and doesn't get it, he doesn't just accept that fact and move on; he tries to do something about it. Such as, in the photo below, get out of his chair. Sweet happy child one minute, stubborn strong-willed determined tyrant the next.
Someone once suggested that we should explain to him what the word "No!" means. Our reply is always that Lautje understands perfectly well what the word "No" means, he just refuses to accept that as a final answer...

Getting Down

Lautje's picked up a few new tricks since his time in Texas. One of the best (at least from the Mommy and Daddy's point of view) is his newfound ability to get down by himself. As you can see from these four actions shots, he's figured it all out. Of course, he seems to forget that his head isn't made of steel, and bumps it on everything as he drops down, but it's a start...

Back in Business

Now that we're back home and settled in, Lautje has taken to re-exploring everything, just to make sure nothing changed while he was gone. Sometimes that means getting an up-close-and-personal view of things, such as the underside of the dining room table, as seen to the left. In this instance, Lautje was somewhat surprised to find out that the table had actually shrunk in the meantime, as when he stood up he unexpectedly banged his head.
On other occasions, his explorations simply involve revisiting old friends, like the tool chest, as seen in the second photo. Of course, seeing old friends always makes him happy (even when his Mommy dresses him in tights...).
