Like brother, like sister
Part of Anneke's adoration for her brother manifests itself in the fact that she has to imitate him in everything he does. Sometimes, this works out to the Mommy and Daddy's advantage, like in the case of Anneke's infatuation with brushing her teeth - she could not be prouder standing next to her brother, with her own toothbrush, and opening her mouth with a heart-felt "aaaahhh" to have her 2.5 teeth cleaned. It does not stop there, however:
If Lautje is having fun on the slide with the Oma, fearless Anneke insists on having her turn, and enjoys every second of it:
Anneke's fascination with anything her brother does emerges everywhere. For instance, at the zoo, where Lautje and his little friend demonstrate what flamingos do (and to the Mommy's eternal gratitude, chose to imitate neither the flying nor the swimming nor the crab-eating): standing on one leg No challenge being too big for her, she immediately picked up this new game to try out for herself (or she was trying to escape over the fence into the water...):
Back at home, Lautje discovered that the Nanny's Dr. Seuss backpack, in addition to its more obvious function of holding Aunt Luanne's stacking blocks (and woe to the occasional puzzle piece or lego block that might find its way in there...), also has another wholly unexpected feature: it can be carried on his back! Ever since, he has been bouncing around the apartment, giggling at the noise the stacking blocks make inside the backpack when he runs...Anneke, of course, no sooner spotted him with the backpack than she attempted to copy him. Sadly, despite her valiant attempts, neither the backpacking nor the bouncing worked out too well:
Not to be deterred, Anneke decided instead to emulate the Mommy and go shopping (the Daddy was rather hopeful that the Mommy's purse was devoid of credit cards...). Unfortunately, while a backpack generally stays out of the way of a person's feet, the Mommy's purse was not quite so cooperative.
The Mommy and Daddy's favorite moments, however, are when Lautje decides to emulate Anneke (or, in dude-speak, be "doofy", which translates as "goofy"). This invaribly involves grabbing one of his sister's sun hats (which he would not be caught dead in anywhere outside) and her sunglasses (which he would happily wear all day long, would the Mommy and Daddy allow it):
This then obviously backfires, providing the Mommy and Daddy with endless mirth. Refusing to be outdone, Anneke invariably comes up with her own brand of "doofyness":
Goofy is as goofy does...
