Birthday Boy

Against all odds, little Lautje has made it to his third birthday without having been beaten to death with a lego by his sister or being sold to strangers by his exasperated parents upon the 3467th "Warom?" of the day (seems "why" is definitely the word of the month!). His birthday was a day of great fun - first of all, Lautje had a lovely time meticulously cutting open every inch of his birthday presents using his beloved scissors:
Miraculously, all of the birthday presents survived this unveiling and both kids proceeded to enjoy the newest additions to their (already overflowing) playtoy cabinet. The Opa was happy to help, even more so since this exacting task involved trains...
Lautje especially loved the birthday songs. Interestingly, he showed a clear preference for the Dutch version of things, but that could simply be due to the fact that that involved a lot of loud hooray-ing and waving both hands in the air. Always a winner.
Then, of course, there was the cake, the eating of which was infinitely less important than the fact that it had candles on it. Which could be lit. And blown out. And relit. And blown out. And relit. Good times...
The one person who never seemed to mind even the silliest games or the 300th repetition of it was, of course, the auntie Stephie. No wonder Lautje simply adores her:
The Mommy and Daddy have, by the way, decided to simply not bother with birthday presents anymore. After all, the greatest fun Lautje had was not with the build-a-car, the train, or the puzzles. No, the best time he had was with the table decorations...
