Climbers

To take advantage of what turns out to have been pretty much the last sunny day of the year, the family decided to visit some ruins in the neighborhood. Or, as some people would say, a series of small walls...  It did feel odd to be walking around in a t-shirt and shorts in what was effectively November, but the most unexpected thing was that both Lautje and Anneke discovered their love of climbing. Initially, they were happy to stay on the safe side of the guard rails...  

... or at least within their parents' reach:

Soon, however, they decided that was boring and ventured off on their own: 

  Granted, the walls were fairly wide, and there were plenty of hand- and footholds:

Nevertheless, Mommy was nearly as dubious as the girls on the photo watching Anneke's progress. As surefooted as her brother, Anneke's total lack of fear took this outing to a new heart attack-inducing level... 

 A good time was had by all. And the next outing? Clearly will not involve any ruins...
