Riding in circles

A short while back, Lautje and Anneke convinced the Mommy and Daddy to take them to a street carnival in the neighborhood. Lautje thoroughly enjoyed it, since (in addition to lots of junk food) this involved his two favorite things in the world: cars and riding in circles. The firetruck was definitely a hit...

... as was the race car, with the Mommy as back-up:The train, however (taking him on an endlessly fascinating journey around what appeared to be a small army of garden gnomes) brought out the biggest smile and is featured fondly in the stories Lautje tells to this day:"I went all by myself!" or in Lautje-speak: "Dude danz alleen tein gereden!!"
Anneke, on the other hand, somewhat missed out on the fun. Since she was too young for the rides, and her stomach too touchy for any of the junk food, she quite sensibly decided to simply sleep through most of the festivities (just how she managed to do that with the incredible noise level remains her secret). Back home again, however, she insisted on having her turn at riding in circles:

Staying cool

With the constant drizzle outside it seems ages ago, but in fact it has only been a few weeks, since Germany had to heroically endure the insufferable heat of what were essentially some nice, mild Texas summer days. The admittedly inconvenient lack of ACs required more conventional methods for staying cool, such as spending your days outdoors, especially if you have an auntie with a well-stocked sand-box...
... staying in the shade...
..wearing protective eyewear...... and maximizing your fluids intake.
But the best survival rule: dump every last pillow into your sister's bed, make yourself nice and cozy and simply never move again!
