Exploiting the Nanny

For Lautje, the Nanny's visit was a time of bliss. Having her around all day gave him unexpected access to a doting and loving playfellow, child minder, and accomplice - which he took full advantage of.
The Nanny had no sooner arrived when she already found herself crawling through tunnels at the Mommy's favorite furniture store...
..."helping" Lautje put his PJs on (which mainly involves making sure he doesn't fall off his bed or run into walls for the - quite extensive - time period where his head is lost somewhere inside his pajama top)...
... and reading Lautje's favorite book about the elephant who has hiccups (or, in Lautje-speak, hippupps) while he is busy stealing her water bottle. Anneke similarly was determined to make the most of the Nanny's visit. And if that involved the Nanny entertaining her granddaughter long enough that her own glass of nice, chilled wine was tepid and all but undrinkable by the end of it - well, something's got to give...
Strangely, though, the Nanny did not seem to mind at all being thus exploited by the Terrible Twosome. On the contrary, she even turned out to be their most enthusiastic partner in crime, and without her, the yield in sweets and candy from the carnival parade would not have been nearly as plentiful...

The Papa and his grandkids

The Papa's visit included all of his favorite things (ok, except for golf, but then, it was rather chilly). For instance, there was good food and good beer, accompanied by a toast shared with his youngest granddaughter:
There were high-fives from the dude:
There was communal tramspotting:
There were plenty of trains and tracks - and sometimes they could even be convinced to fit together long enough to permit Thomas to go for a spin:
And last but not least, there were LOTS of Anneke grump faces. While this picture doesn't feature the frown that dominated the first few days of Anneke's re-acquaintance with the Papa (coupled with immediate protest whenever said Papa would move out of her line of sight), it does capture another of her favorite facial expressions:
